Cultivating Community: 2023 Community Harvest Gala

At the Community Harvest Gala this year, we celebrated so much more than just our success; we were excited to celebrate you, our community! Over the past three years, an outpour of community support nourished our growth far more than we could’ve imagined, enabling our team to be nimble and grow despite the challenges of the past few years.

As we gathered at Georgetown Ballroom for the evening, we rooted ourselves in our vision of cultivating community, renewing our shared connections with old friends, reuniting with our neighbors, and inviting new friends to join us in our vision of ending food insecurity in South Seattle. Together, we listened to stories from Miguel Jimenez, a former RVFB staffer, who reminded us of our roots and how far we’ve grown. We were thrilled to present Maria Kolby-Wolfe with this year’s Ed Parks Award, acknowledging her incredible support for the arts, food, and justice for all. We heard Rosa Peralta’s passionate reminder that nourishing our collective humanity by providing culturally relevant food is essential.

Our community’s incredible generosity surprised us again, as the night ended in a far bigger success than we dreamed, raising more than $193,000, far surpassing our goal and making this our most successful gala yet!
