Warehouse Assistant
Full Time, Non-Exempt
Compensation: $32.69/hour
The Warehouse Assistant (WA) will assist the Warehouse Lead in receiving products, completing inventory, and ensuring safe and efficient storage of in-kind items. They will be responsible for assisting the Warehouse Lead in all food programs, including setting-up, restocking, and closing all food service programs. (WA) will support all warehouse tasks, by organizing, cleaning, and maintaining garbage/recycle/compost systems. The (WA) will assist in quality control, food planning, and product rotation to make sure correct items are going out to respective programs at the right time and in a safe manner that aligns with all food safety protocols.
The Warehouse Assistant (WA) must be able to fill-in for Warehouse Lead in all day-to-day activities and provide back-up coverage during any type of leave. Back-Up support tasks will include efficiently operating an electric pallet jack, receiving in-kind donations, setting up, maintaining, and closing all food service program warehouse areas, leading volunteers, and interns in meeting all warehouse day-to-day goals or tasks. They will also be responsible for practicing effective communication with other employees of Rainier Valley Food Bank, ensuring the warehouse is supporting the needs of all food service programs.

Youth Community Outreach Intern
Applications submitted by December 15th will be given priority.
Compensation: $21.30/hour. Internship does not qualify for benefits, including sick time and PTO.
This paid position is an opportunity for a high school student to directly assist those facing food insecurity in the South Seattle area, as well as build relationships with volunteers, community partners, and peers. The intern will work alongside staff and volunteers, helping to sort and distribute food and other resources. Youth Intern will also help plan and put on community events, develop new programming, and conduct peer-to-peer outreach focused on food insecurity among youth. An ideal candidate is excited to learn more about daily operations at a food bank, service and community engagement, food insecurity and food justice. Work will take place in person at Rainier Valley Food Bank, with occasional field trips to other sites. This position will also include job readiness skills and training.

· Candidate will report to RVFB 4 hours/week, unless instructed to meet elsewhere. The duration of the internship is 6 months, beginning in January 2026 and ending in June 2026.
· Distribution: food sorting/logging, preparing bags for home delivery clients and students, distributing food to clients, assisting with in-person shopping, sourcing and distributing food for Backpack Program, cleaning and organizing warehouse.
· Community Engagement and Outreach:
Plan community outreach events for food distribution, community building, celebration and education; Develop and implement peer-to-peer youth outreach campaigns and programs to reduce hunger and food insecurity among Seattle youth.
Coordination with volunteers, clients and partnering community organizations, drafting internal and external documents, working with other youth interns/cohorts research culturally appropriate forms of outreach to our community to increase participation, particularly youth participation.
Develop and collect surveys or plan peer-to-peer listening sessions to ensure our programs meet the needs of our community.
· Kitchen and Garden Programming:
Help activate and develop kitchen and garden programming geared toward youth – for example: regular cooking or nutrition classes, youth volunteer garden days
· Candidate can expect to learn about day-to-day operations at a food bank; food insecurity, food systems, and food justice; growing food; community partnerships and community outreach; job readiness skills (resume help, time management, etc.); youth program development; kitchen and garden program development

This is a learning internship for a high school-aged student. There are no prior work qualifications. The candidate should be enrolled in school and available to work 4 hours/week in-person during RVFB operating hours (Tues-Fri, 9am-2pm). Shifts will be determined based on intern’s school schedule and can be split up between two days or completed one day/week. If candidates would like to use the internship to satisfy any school credits, that should be indicated on their application.
The ideal candidate is someone who… is excited to learn about how a direct service nonprofit functions; wants to learn more about food insecurity and how it intersects with other types of societal inequity; wants to address youth food insecurity; is excited to jump into operations at the food bank and make connections at different community organizations; is interested in gardening/growing food; is interested in community engagement.
