Meet Our Summer Interns
From left to right: Hanifa, Essence, Xinnan, Ra’mya, Dasha and Holden
Another summer means another group of interns joined us at RVFB. Help us thank Essence, Dasha, Ra’mya, Xinnan and Hanifa, for their service, led by our Youth Engagement Coordinator, Holden. They joined us through TIPS and SYEP. This summer they helped around the building and learned how the food bank operates.
Meet Essence who is entering the 12th grade! Her favorite thing about being at RVFB is being in the kitchen. She shared how welcoming the staff is and how that makes it feel like family. Three fun facts about Essence are that she writes poetry, enjoys making mini vlogs, and has been volunteering at the food bank since middle school.
Next is Dasha, entering her senior year, who is joining us from TIPS! Three fun facts about Dasha are that she has two cats, her favorite color is blue, and her favorite fruit is mangos! She most enjoyed seeing the impact RVFB is making and seeing the staff and volunteers.
Ra’mya also joined us from TIPS and is going into the 11th grade. Her fun facts are that her dream concert is an Olivia Rodrigo concert; she used to volunteer at RVFB’s old location in middle school for a community service class, and her favorite ice cream flavors are strawberry and cotton candy. What she enjoyed most about being here at RVFB is the welcoming and positive community.
We also have Xinnan, who is an incoming freshman at Central College and joins us from SYEP! Xinnan enjoyed working in the warehouse because it kept her in motion, replenishing the food in our grocery store. She also enjoyed spending time relaxing in the kitchen. A couple of fun facts about her are that she is interested in creative art and the place she wants to visit the most is Italy to see the city of Florence and enjoy the art.
Finally, we have Hanifa, going into the 11th grade, who has joined us from SYEP! Some fun facts about Hanifa are that she loves being in nature and likes to crochet, knit and make miniature DIY worlds. The thing she most enjoyed about being at RVFB is the close community and friendship between the volunteers, donors, staff and the community of families we are working for. It feels like there’s a way everyone can contribute to the food bank.
We’re grateful for their service this summer. They worked so hard in various departments such as our programs and events, always showing up for each other and their community. Help us wish them luck as they start the new school year!
