Honoring Our Space

The building that we now occupy has always been a core part of South Seattle, serving the community in many different capacities. As a former library branch, funeral home and mortuary, bank, and Chiropractor’s office, this space has a history of providing various resources to our neighbors. We are proud to be a part of that legacy here, continuing community engagement by distributing food and resources. This month, we are partnering with local organizations to host events for community members, as we honor the history of this space. Join in the festivities by coming to workshops during Financial Fitness Week and taking part in our Homegoing Celebration.

Upcoming Events

Financial Fitness Week, July 25-29

To remember the time that our building was a branch of Seafirst Bank, we are hosting a workshop series from July 25-29 about finance management. Workshop topics include budgeting, scam safety and consumer protection, homeownership, and much more! We are grateful to our partners: Brighton Jones, Office of the Attorney General, BECU, Washington Homeownership Resource Center, Northwest Justice Project, and Washington State Department of Revenue for sharing your financial knowledge with us! RSVP today with Eventbrite for these free and educational sessions.

Homegoing Celebration, July 29

This space also served as a branch of the Bonney Watson Funeral Home and Southwest Mortuary, where folks remembered the lives of their loved ones who have passed. On July 29th, everyone in our community is welcome to join us for the Homegoing Celebration, a time to honor the lives of family and community members. There will be food to share, provided by RVFB staff, and a dove release at 2 pm.

Previous Event

Book Exchange

In March, we partnered with Seattle Public Library, The Seattle Public Library Foundation, and Friends of the Seattle Public Library for a book exchange event during grocery shopping. Folks browsed through hundreds of books in different languages, celebrating and remembering the time our building was the Rainier Beach Branch of Seattle Public Library.

For more information and times of these upcoming events, check out the events calendar on our website. Stay on the lookout for a health fair in August, commemorating this space’s time as a Chiropractor’s office.
