March is upon us again, and we all know what that means: the days are getting longer, the flowers are blooming, and basketball fans are getting ready for March Madness! But we here at Rainier Valley Food Bank aren’t just filling out our brackets – we’re also gearing up for our yearly #MunchMadness fundraiser with Rookies Sports Bar and Grill.
Throughout March Madness and the NBA playoffs (March and April), Rookies’ servers will be competing to see who can collect the most donations for the food bank. Diners who come in to watch the games will have the option of donating to the food bank when they pay their tabs. Last year’s fundraiser was a great success, raising $3,500 to help RVFB serve our hungry neighbors!
#MunchMadness donations support our backpack program, which provides nutritious food on weekends to students at Rainier Valley schools who receive free and reduced price meals during the week. Breakfast and lunch are available for these children at school, but during the weekend, many end up going hungry. The backpack program attempts to bridge this gap, increasing food security for low-income students and helping them to get on an equal playing field with their peers.
So come on down to Rookies and support your team and your neighbors at the same time! We hope to see you there.
